Louvre

The pyramid of crystal in the center is a contrast compared to the castle, but the real treasure is what is inside of them, an immense collection of historical artifacts. Divided in ten sections and in tree wings the Louvre cannot be seen in just one day.

As everybody knows, the Mona Lisa is a must painting to see. However, why some other works made by Da Vinci also are being ignored? We cannot deny that the technique used by the painter, which creates the feeling that she is looking at us no matter in which side of the room we are, and the  mysterious smile of that woman made this portrait impressive. However for some visitors the portrait is overrated.

The Antiques collection of the Louvre has antiques from our Sumerian ancestors, who had the ability to express ideas through written symbols. Then more symbols were added and eventually they were matched with sounds creating the Alphabetic cuneiform. This gallery is very important because those tablets are the core of our writing system.  Hence, the Code of Hammurabi which is a code of laws for the daily living and is also written in Cuneiform is a must to see. I consider it like an early version of the Ten Commandments.

The Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities are an immense display of sculptures about gods and goddesses. Clearly this gallery is about Classical Art. Greek and Roman mythology has piqued the curiosity of so many different cultures because gods are perfect and as humans we are always looking for perfection. Today we can consider our God, in any religion, our role model as a perfect entity who does not commit mistakes. The same case occurs with Greek Gods.

This museum should be visited with an open mind, enough time and with a previously elaborated plan to decide what to visit. We have to consider that the museum is located in Paris but belongs to the world because has so much history about different cultures that it is impossible not to feel that your ancestors’ story is being told.
